About the book:

'Turkey is the largest source country of immigration in Europe and Sweden is the most inclusive one in terms of immigrants’ rights. There are many analyses that compare either countries of origin or destination societies, but few have studied comprehensively how these two contexts interact. Baser and Levin’s book provides a fascinating portrait of a deeply heterogeneous category of immigrants and their pathways towards integration in a society that has embraced multiculturalism and equality of opportunity and rights more than others, but that has still struggled with overcoming patterns of social segregation. This is a balanced and insightful book that shatters clichés and raises awareness of the challenges of integration for both immigrants and native populations.
- Rainer Bauböck, Professor of Social and Political Theory, European University Institute, Florence

'This volume offers a richness of perspectives on a heterogeneous migrant diaspora from a homeland in social and political upheaval and their history and present in a country experiencing a confounding transformation of its once exceptional politics of integration.'
- Carl-Ulrik Schierup, Professor, Director of The Institute for Research on Migration, Ethnicity and Society (REMESO), Linköping University, Sweden.

'Migration and integration are part of life itself. A reality best explained when seen from different angles. This book does not offer any simple answers, but it gives us valuable facts, background and exciting stories about a migration that has formed Sweden and its new inhabitants.'
- Jens Orback, Former Minister of Integration and Secretary General of the Olof Palme International Centre
